Team!

Nov 25, 2019

Family Docs, how often have you heard "use your team"?

Many years ago if I created a referral letter I would have to find the address of the specialist, print out all the relevant chart notes and investigations, make sure the problem list and Med list were up to date.

I certainly did not enjoy referring patients!! The whole process could take an hour for a complex referral.

Then the friendly staff would fax or send it off

What I didn't appreciate is that there were staff who love doing paperwork. But I was concerned that they wouldn't get it right!

Yep! My thoughts were creating a thorn in my side!! My thought "what if they don't do it as well as I do?" Was stealing hours of my time!

How long do you think it takes to train an administrative staff member to understand what you do with referral letters?

And who says you can't get them to show you their work before they send it off to the specialist?

Family Physicians take time to think strategically about what you do. What is Physician work and what (with training) could be delegated out?

Want more help? I can help you!
